Finally out of Texas and into Louisiana

We have crossed the border of Texas today and entered Louisiana, that was a big accomplishment for us. It was the biggest state and about a third of our trip, now we are headed towards New Orleans then making out way across the southern parts of Mississippi and Alabama into Florida! We should be in Florida sometime late next week, and then another week or so to get to Jacksonville. So it is definitely coming fast, and we are going to be seeing a lot of different things this next week, including New Orleans, part of the oil spill, and Katrina's epicenter. We have now pedaled over 1,600 miles, and still have about 1,000 more to go. But we are feeling great and just taking it day by day, we are going to try and not take a day off for the next two weeks until we get to our destination. Just going to put in some easier days with mileage in the 70-80 mile range and also maybe leave a bit later and sleep in a bit. Thanks everyone for the e-mail's, text messages, calls, and just encouragement along the way keep it up, it definitely helps a lot!

Day 16, second day in Texas, run into storm!

So on our second day into Texas on our way to Fort Davis coming from Van Horn, we ran into a storm that started pouring rain on us. We were on the 118 about 12 miles off the 10 going into the mountains, about 45 minutes in we saw some dark clouds along with thunder and lightning randomly. But we didn't think much would happen, but we've also never been in Texas weather before. So about 10 minutes after this video it started pouring rain and got super windy, we started putting on our rain jackets and covers on our bags going to try and tough it out. But a maintenance vehicle passed us and immediately turned around to ask if we needed help, we thought our best bet was to get a ride into town which was still about 35 miles away! He aid he was only going a few miles up to where the highway splits but could take us there, then another truck pulled up which ended up being a nice man named Asgier. He willingly gave us a ride to the next town of Alpine, Tx where he lives, very nice man that definitely saved us from the storm, so if your reading this thanks again!

Day 7 Goodyear, Az

Hello everyone updating here. Were in Goodyear, Az at a relatives. we got here around 11:30 am yesterday after leaving at 3:15 in the morning to beat the heat. Yesterday we got some lunch upon arrival and basically chilled inside in the ac and updated the website, did some laundry, and drank lots of water. Got a good nights sleep last night finally, and a good homemade breakfast this morning. Today we ran some errands, we both took our bikes to a local bike shop to get the chains cleaned, Brian got a slit in his rear tire and got the tire and tube replace as well as the derailer adjusted. We also stopped by REI to purchase some road biking sandals that have clip ins on them, because of the heat our feet start to swell and make it very uncomfortable in our small biking shoes. As well as some bandannas that have small beads in them that you can soak in the water and they keep cool, as well as some water bottles with insulation. We were not really prepared for the heat. But now we should be able to get through it a bit better. So for the rest of the day were are going to recuperate have some good food and drink lots. Tomorrow we are heading to Casa Grande, Az which is about 75 miles south of us towards Tucson (about the halfway point from Phoenix to Tucson) and then the next day we are making our way to Tucson, Az!
